Gandhinagar, Jan 23 (NationPress) The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Gujarat is in progress, with election officials reporting a significant influx of applications for inclusion, deletion, and correction of voter details throughout the state, as stated by poll officials on Friday.
The voter revision initiative, which commenced on October 27, 2025, successfully completed its enumeration phase prior to the publication of the draft electoral roll on December 19, 2025.
As per official statistics, a total of 6,54,594 applications in Form-6 and Form-6A were filed by Thursday for the inclusion of names in the final electoral roll.
Simultaneously, 12,59,229 applications in Form-7 were submitted seeking the removal of names, while 5,04,835 applications in Form-8 were recorded for detail corrections and changes of residence.
Ahmedabad emerged as the district with the highest number of Form-6 and Form-6A applications, totaling 97,664, followed by Surat with 54,797 and Vadodara with 34,373.
Conversely, districts such as Dang reported merely 2,625 applications, Narmada had 3,120, and Aravalli recorded 3,805.
Regarding deletions, Ahmedabad again led with 2,40,549 Form-7 applications, with Surat at 1,10,286 and Kheda at 1,35,174.
Bharuch noted 91,169 deletion requests, while Junagadh had 61,237.
Other districts with noteworthy inclusion figures included Banaskantha with 32,923, Bhavnagar with 29,295, Rajkot with 28,257, and Panchmahal with 20,771.
For deletions, Banaskantha reported significant numbers at 60,543, Jamnagar at 44,350, Bhavnagar at 40,555, and Gir Somnath at 34,007.
Smaller districts like Chhota Udepur and Dang recorded 943 and 506 deletion applications respectively.
Election officials mentioned that claims and objections can be submitted until January 30, 2026, after which verification and processing will occur simultaneously.
"All claims and objections will be examined according to established procedures to maintain the integrity of the electoral roll," an official stated.
Reiterating the purpose of the SIR initiative, the Election Commission emphasized that the voter revision effort aims to ensure the accuracy and inclusiveness of the voters' list, adhering to the principle: "No eligible voter should be omitted, and no ineligible voter should be included."
