Gandhinagar, Nov 7 (NationPress) Following the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Gujarat has initiated a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign aimed at enhancing and updating the electoral rolls statewide.
During a detailed review meeting held in Gandhinagar, ECI Director Shubhra Saxena and Secretary Binod Kumar assessed the ongoing SIR process.
At the meeting, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Harit Shukla provided an update on the progress achieved thus far. As of October 27, 2025, there are 5,08,43,436 registered voters in Gujarat, and enumeration forms are being printed and distributed to every voter.
So far, 5,03,83,022 forms have been printed, with 1,01,04,584 forms successfully delivered to voters. The printing and distribution of the remaining forms are currently ongoing.
During the Gandhinagar meeting, ECI officials instructed all District Election Officers (DEOs) and Municipal Commissioners from across Gujarat on effective methods to ensure that Registration Officers and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) reach all voters throughout the SIR process.
The officials emphasized the importance of providing on-ground assistance to voters in completing enumeration forms to ensure that no citizen encounters difficulties.
To bolster election management, the ECI has appointed the Commissioners of eight Municipal Corporations as Special Additional District Election Officers, who will deploy staff to assist with voter registration and enumeration activities.
Moreover, the senior ECI team reviewed operations in Kalol taluka of Gandhinagar district, where local Election Officers and BLOs are actively engaged in the SIR drive.
The review meeting also featured attendance from Additional Chief Electoral Officer A.B. Patel and other senior officials from the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Gujarat.
The SIR initiative is a comprehensive voter enrolment and verification campaign launched under the Election Commission of India (ECI) directives to ensure the accuracy and inclusivity of electoral rolls in preparation for upcoming elections.
This process includes door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs), aimed at identifying new voters, correcting existing information, and eliminating duplicate or invalid entries. Enumeration forms are distributed to every household to facilitate participation.
The ECI has instructed District Election Officers (DEOs) and Registration Officers to guarantee that every eligible citizen is included in the revision.
This campaign also underscores transparency, voter awareness, and the utilization of digital platforms for tracking progress. Through the SIR exercise, the ECI aims to maintain a clean, updated, and error-free voter list that fortifies the democratic process and ensures fair and inclusive elections.
