Mogadishu, March 30 (NationPress) The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in partnership with the Federal Government of Somalia, executed an airstrike targeting various ISIS-Somalia operatives in the east African nation.

This operation took place on Saturday in the southeastern area of Bosaso, located in the northeastern part of the country.

According to preliminary evaluations, AFRICOM reported that numerous ISIS-Somalia members were neutralized, with no civilian casualties. The organization emphasized that the activities of ISIS-Somalia pose a significant threat to US security interests.

"ISIS-Somalia has demonstrated both the intent and capability to target US and allied forces. Their harmful actions jeopardize US security interests," stated AFRICOM in a press release.

"Furthermore, AFRICOM, in collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia and the Somali Armed Forces, remains committed to undermining ISIS-Somalia's ability to orchestrate and execute attacks that threaten the US homeland, its military personnel, and civilians abroad," the statement added.

Meanwhile, AFRICOM indicated that specific operational details would not be disclosed to maintain ongoing operational security.

In a prior operation on March 25, AFRICOM and the Somali government conducted a series of airstrikes against ISIS-Somalia near the Golis Mountains.

During this mission, AFRICOM confirmed that several operatives were killed, with no civilians harmed.

In February, Dorothy Shea, the Deputy US Representative to the United Nations in New York, remarked during a UN Security Council meeting that combating ISIS and other terrorist organizations globally is a critical objective for the administration of US President Donald Trump.

President Trump has previously instructed precision airstrikes against ISIS in Somalia, which took place on February 1.

Last month, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth affirmed the US commitment to identifying and eliminating terrorists that pose a threat to the US and its allies.

As per a report from the US Department of State, the Somali government continues to be a dedicated partner of the US in the relentless fight against al-Shabaab and ISIS-Somalia.
