Ahmedabad, June 15 (NationPress) Three days following the tragic plane crash, the remains of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani have been positively identified at the crash site through DNA testing.
A dedicated team of forensic specialists has been tirelessly working to identify the victims by comparing the DNA of the deceased with samples taken from their family members.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced the confirmation of Rupani’s identification during a press conference earlier today.
The final rites for Vijay Rupani will take place in Rajkot, where his family will determine the specifics of the cremation.
Rishikesh Patel, Gujarat Health Minister, stated in an interview with IANS that the state government will assist in all arrangements once the family finalizes the funeral details.
“Today, Gujarat CM Bhupendrabhai Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi visited the residence of the late Vijaybhai Rupani and informed the family members that his DNA has been confirmed. The family will decide on the last rites and the necessary preparations for cremation. After discussions with them, all arrangements will be executed,” he remarked.
Legislator Reenaben Patel also confirmed that Rupani’s remains will be transported to Rajkot, where numerous supporters and well-wishers have gathered to pay their respects and bid a heartfelt farewell.
Former CM Vijay Rupani was aboard the ill-fated Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which was operating as flight AI171 from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, when it crashed shortly after takeoff, claiming the lives of 241 out of 242 passengers. Miraculously, one individual survived the tragedy, while all others perished.
The former CM was en route to London to reunite with his wife and daughter.
It is worth mentioning that the DNA matching process is intricate, involving multiple layers of verification. Families are only contacted to collect their loved ones' remains after a thorough series of tests and confirmations. In certain instances, analyses may need to be repeated due to insufficient DNA material. The identification process can take up to 72 hours, depending on the condition of the remains.
