While addressing attendees at the 132nd National Dussehra Fair in Kota on Thursday, alongside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the Chief Minister emphasized that the fair transcends mere celebration; it is a vibrant testament to Rajasthan’s rich cultural heritage.
Sharma characterized the Kota Dussehra Fair as a significant event recognized throughout India for its majestic scale and historical relevance. It draws tourists and devotees from all corners of the country and beyond, acting as a hub for religious devotion, cultural showcases, entertainment, and folk traditions.
He also highlighted how Lord Shri Ram established Ramrajya by vanquishing evils like Ravana, ensuring that happiness and prosperity reached every individual in society. The state government, adhering to the principle of “Man as Narayan and Deen as God,” endeavors to bring about positive transformations in the lives of women, youth, farmers, and the underprivileged.
Sharma noted advancements in women’s safety, women’s empowerment, and poverty alleviation through programs like the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Poverty Free Village Scheme, aimed at uplifting BPL families in 10,000 villages.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla remarked that Dussehra represents a festival that celebrates the victory of truth over falsehood.
He reminisced that Shri Ram triumphed over the arrogant Ravana by uniting individuals and forming an army of righteousness. Birla encouraged citizens to embrace the path of truth and morality to aid in the development of both the nation and the state.
He mentioned that Kota’s Dussehra Fair stands as a historic emblem of tradition and culture, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advocacy for Swadeshi, emphasizing its potential to make the country self-reliant and prosperous. Birla underscored that the reduction in GST rates has directly benefited local producers and consumers.
This year, attendees are celebrating savings by purchasing handicrafts and local products in significant quantities at the fair. He extended his greetings for Vijayadashami and expressed hope that the event would usher in new prosperity and joy for artisans and craftsmen.
During the event, representatives from the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records presented a certificate to the Chief Minister for constructing India’s largest effigy of Ravana, which stands at 233 feet.
The effigy was traditionally ignited by former Maharao Ijyeraj Singh, symbolizing Lord Laxminarayan, amidst dazzling fireworks that captivated the audience. Upon arriving at Kota’s Garh Palace, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla were welcomed by former Maharao Ijyeraj Singh at the Darikhana.
Members of the royal family, estate holders, and a large crowd of citizens conveyed their greetings for the festival.
