Thrissur, Dec 6 (NationPress) Just as the Kerala High Court intervened to suspend the arrest of Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil until December 15, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described the ruling as a “natural judicial step” and dismissed claims that the government was intentionally stalling action.
During a press conference on Saturday, the Chief Minister emphasized that the police had no intention of avoiding the arrest of the Congress legislator, who is currently evading law enforcement due to a serious rape charge.
“There is no directive preventing the police from proceeding with the arrest. The assertion that law enforcement is deliberately delaying is unfounded,” Vijayan stated, emphasizing that the High Court’s temporary order aligns with standard judicial practices.
Interestingly, Vijayan, who typically avoids media interactions due to the impending local body elections on December 9 and 11, chose to engage with the press during his state tour as part of his campaign.
Turning to local governance, the Chief Minister praised the “transformational performance” of the Thrissur Corporation in recent years.
He noted that the previously infamous Laloor waste dump has been removed, elevating the city to the status of a ‘Zero Waste Corporation.’
Important civic initiatives, such as the skywalk, Vanchikulam tourism development, Peechi drinking water scheme, and the Ollur water reservoir, were highlighted as examples of ongoing municipal advancement.
Thrissur’s recognition as a UNESCO Learning City signifies enhancements in health, education, and urban management, he added.
The LIFE Mission housing initiative has successfully provided residences for thousands and serves as a model intervention.
Vijayan also took the opportunity to firmly rebut allegations linking the CPI(M) to Jamaat-e-Islami.
“Those leveling such claims are leaders who make unfounded statements without accountability,” he remarked.
Reflecting on the organization’s voting history, he clarified that Jamaat-e-Islami first voted in 1985, and its 1996 votes were primarily protest votes against Congress, not endorsements for the Left.
“We have never sought their support nor granted them a certificate of approval,” he asserted, dismissing the allegations as politically motivated.
