On the social media platform X, PM Modi remarked: "Pu Vungzagin Valte will be remembered for his exemplary service to the people of Manipur. His efforts to effect positive change in society were commendable. His insights in the Assembly were invaluable. I mourn his loss and extend my condolences to his family, friends, and supporters."
In a post on X, Manipur Lok Bhavan stated: "The Governor of Manipur is profoundly saddened by the loss of Vungzagin Valte, Hon’ble MLA. His premature passing is a significant loss to the people of Manipur and public service. He will be honored for his dedication and committed service to society."
Chief Minister Singh described Valte as a compassionate leader who dedicated his life to serving the public. He stated on his official X account: "I am deeply grieved by the untimely passing of Pu Vungzagin Valte, Hon'ble MLA of Thanlon Assembly Constituency, who died today in New Delhi while receiving intensive medical care."
Singh emphasized that Valte's unwavering dedication to the welfare and holistic development of Manipur demonstrated his true spirit of selfless service. He noted Valte's tireless efforts in strengthening infrastructure and uplifting communities, earning him respect and affection from many.
"His passing represents a tremendous loss not only for his family and loved ones but also for the residents of Thanlon and the broader state of Manipur. Valte was brutally attacked and critically injured by assailants on May 4, 2023, shortly after attending a meeting with former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The attack left him with multiple injuries and partial paralysis, leading to his urgent transfer to Delhi for months of intensive medical treatment.
Tragically, Valte's driver was also killed in the May 4, 2023 attack. The late tribal leader had previously called for unity within the Zo community amidst the ongoing ethnic crisis in Manipur.
