Mumbai, Aug 15 (NationPress) Actress Wamiqa Gabbi has passionately advocated for the freedom of stray dogs this Independence Day, coinciding with the Supreme Court's recent ruling to move stray dogs to shelters in Delhi-NCR.
The 'Baby John' star expressed that many of the stray dogs in her vicinity have become like family to her over time.
Sharing cherished moments with her furry companions, Gabbi wrote on her Instagram: "Meet my fellow Indian beings Laila, Jugnu, Gabbar, Milie, Julie, and Fluky, along with others I encountered randomly... These little souls once wandered the streets, searching for scraps and safety. Today, they are my family, my joy, and a constant reminder of unconditional love."
This Independence Day, Gabbi called on everyone to embrace the freedom that every living being deserves — the freedom to exist without fear, with dignity, and with love.
Highlighting shortcomings in the current plan for relocating street dogs, she remarked: "If the processes for rehabilitating stray dogs were more systematic and organized, we wouldn’t be facing such a divisive issue."
"This unfortunate label of 'menace and nuisance' is not about them; it’s about us humans! Let’s celebrate not just our independence, but the independence of mind, body, and soul for these voiceless beings who offer us so much yet ask for so little — compassion!"
"Are all animals residing in India not Indians?" Gabbi concluded.
Numerous actors have voiced their opposition to the Supreme Court's decision to capture and transfer all stray dogs in the Delhi-NCR area to designated shelters, ensuring that none of the animals escapes.
Recently, actor Randeep Hooda welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to reevaluate its ruling.
“I’m relieved to hear that the Honourable CJI has agreed to reconsider the ruling regarding stray dogs in NCR. Enacting a law should be primarily humane, and the infrastructure and sensitivity must be prioritized,” Hooda stated.
