Mumbai, Dec 27 (NationPress) Actress Wamiqa Gabbi asserts that one of the most significant transformations in the film industry over the years has been the newfound prominence of storytelling.
As she reflects on the conclusion of the first quarter of the 21st century, Wamiqa observes that modern cinema has gradually embraced subtle and more sophisticated narratives. She believes that the past few decades have paved the way for stories centered on flawed characters and emotions that resonate without being overly loud.
In an interview with IANS, she stated: “What really stands out for me is how much space storytelling has found. The last couple of decades have allowed for quieter narratives, flawed people, and stories that don’t need to shout to be heard.”
The actress noted that while technology has accelerated the way films reach audiences, the most significant change is the trust between filmmakers and viewers.
“Today's audiences are receptive to nuance and complexity, which honestly surprised me. There’s now room for performances that unfold gradually and for stories that linger instead of solely aiming for immediate reactions,” she elaborated.
Wamiqa made her acting debut as a child in the film Jab We Met, featuring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor.
She later rose to prominence in Punjabi cinema with notable performances in Tu Mera 22 Main Tera 22, Nikka Zaildar 2 and its sequel Nikka Zaildar 3, as well as Kali Jotta. Wamiqa has also ventured into other languages with the Tamil film Maalai Naerathu Mayakkam and the Malayalam sports drama Godha.
Most recently, she appeared in Bhool Chuk Maaf, a fantasy romantic comedy directed by Karan Sharma, alongside Rajkummar Rao and Seema Pahwa.
Wamiqa is set to star in the highly anticipated sequel, Pati Patni Aur Woh 2, featuring Ayushmaan Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan. Directed by Mudassar Aziz, this project is scheduled for a theatrical release on March 4, 2026, during Holi.
Additionally, Wamiqa has several upcoming projects, including Bhooth Bangla, Kuku Ki Kundali, Tiki Taka, and Goodachari 2.
Bhooth Bangla is directed by Priyadarshan, bringing together the iconic trio of Priyadarshan, Akshay Kumar, and Paresh Rawal. The film will also feature Tabu, Rajpal Yadav, and Mithila Palkar in pivotal roles.
Produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms in collaboration with Akshay Kumar's Cape of Good Films, the film is co-produced by Faara Sheikh and Vedant Baali, and is expected to hit theaters on April 2, 2026.
