“The Rajya Sabha has inscribed its name in the pages of legislative history. The session commenced at 11 a.m. on April 3 and concluded at 4:02 a.m. the following day. This is the longest sitting ever recorded,” he remarked, praising members for their 17-hour commitment to debate the legislation.
“This accomplishment will convey a powerful message to the public and bolster confidence in this esteemed institution,” he stated, as the Rajya Sabha adjourned sine die.
He congratulated members for their dedication in passing the transformative Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which aims to instill transparency and accountability in the management of Waqf properties while modernizing legacy systems and adhering to the principles of equity and justice.
“This session will be remembered for its significant legislative achievements and the prevailing spirit of unity. It marks a defining moment in India's parliamentary history—a compelling reminder of what can be accomplished through dialogue, perseverance, and a collective goal,” he added.
Dhankhar remarked, “The Rajya Sabha has once again set a standard of democracy worthy of emulation by others. Our upcoming sessions will further enhance these democratic values.”
He also reflected on the occasion when the House was graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed gratitude to all members for their support in conducting the proceedings smoothly.
“I commend the hard work of the Secretary General and the staff for ensuring the seamless operation of the House, working extensive hours,” he noted.
Earlier, the House had been adjourned until 1 p.m. following brief proceedings, as members of the Treasury Bench raised slogans against the West Bengal government, which was criticized by the Supreme Court regarding a teachers’ job scam.
