New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) A delegation from the Dawoodi Bohra community met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, expressing their gratitude for the Waqf Amendment Act.

The representatives of the Dawoodi Bohra community voiced their unwavering support for the recently enacted legislation, stating that this fulfillment addresses their long-standing demand.

Community leaders reaffirmed their trust in PM Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas' and conveyed optimism that the reforms introduced in the Waqf law will significantly rectify the flaws of the previous legislation, ultimately benefiting the Muslim community at large.

The backing of the Bohra community for the new Waqf legislation is crucial, particularly as several Muslim organizations, clerics, and ulemas have deemed it an infringement on their religious rights and have approached the Apex Court to contest its legitimacy.

Kiren Rijiju, the Union Minister for Minority Affairs, also attended the meeting between the Dawoodi Bohra community and the Prime Minister.

He shared images from the meeting on social media, stating, “The Dawoodi Bohra Community expressed their sincere gratitude to PM Modi for the Waqf Amendment Act, which fulfills a long-standing request.”

“Their faith in PM Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas was truly inspiring,” he added.

The Dawoodi Bohra community is a sect within the Shia Ismaili branch of Islam, boasting a significant presence not only in India but also in forty other countries worldwide.

Importantly, they had previously communicated with the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill last year, requesting exemption from the Waqf board, arguing that the proposed legislation fails to acknowledge their unique status within the broader Muslim community.
