Mumbai, April 12 (NationPress) Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC addressed the recent wave of violence in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Act, emphasizing that the purpose of the legislation is to foster transparency and accountability, rather than incite disorder.

Her comments were made in response to reports of violent confrontations and arson incidents in Murshidabad, where public demonstrations arose due to perceived misconceptions regarding the amendments to the Waqf Act.

In an interview with IANS, Shaina NC stated, “The residents of West Bengal ought to be informed. The amendment to the Waqf Act is designed to introduce transparent and accountable measures to combat corruption. For those spreading conspiracy theories, it’s time they read the Act to grasp its core principles.”

She further noted that the amendment requires proper management of revenue records, prevents encroachments, and guarantees that courts can adhere to a more efficient process regarding Waqf-related issues.

“These reforms are long overdue,” she remarked.

Addressing doubts surrounding the law, Shaina highlighted previous legislative efforts.

“Review the amendments from 1995 and 2013 — they only resulted in inefficiency. However, this amendment is set to ensure transparency and accountability. Ultimately, the Muslim community will benefit the most,” she added.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that her state would refrain from implementing the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, following violent protests in regions like Jangipur and Murshidabad.

She called for peace and unity, stressing that the law was instated by the central government. Banerjee warned against the political exploitation of religion and threatened legal consequences for those inciting violence.

The Shiv Sena leader also commented on Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Maharashtra’s Raigad Fort earlier that day.

“We are committed to serving the people of Maharashtra, and the Home Minister’s visit to Raigad is a source of pride. Under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde, and Ajit Pawar, numerous significant projects will soon be initiated,” she mentioned.

Shaina NC also criticized Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan’s comments regarding a fair trial for Tahawwur Hussain Rana — an individual implicated in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks who was recently extradited from the US to India. Chavan had advocated for a fair trial for Rana, consistent with Indian legal standards.

“Prithviraj Chavan must recognize that a terrorist is not an ordinary criminal,” Shaina asserted.

“Cases involving terrorists should be expedited and subjected to capital punishment. Rana was a mastermind, collaborating with David Headley and Major Iqbal of Pakistan’s ISI. Given public sentiment, the death penalty is the only viable option,” she concluded.

Rana, a 64-year-old Canadian businessman of Pakistani origin and a close associate of convicted 26/11 conspirator David Headley, is currently in high-security custody with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) following his long-awaited extradition from the United States.
