New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty vehemently condemned the West Bengal government regarding the recent turmoil in Murshidabad, where three individuals lost their lives, claiming that there have been targeted assaults on the Hindu community, declaring them as refugees.
In an interview with IANS, Chakraborty stated, "Hindus have become refugees in Bengal. Bullying and muscle power is rampant here. We desire no riots or conflicts. Our consistent demand has been for fair elections, yet they simply refuse to permit it."
When queried about the deliberate targeting of Hindus in Bengal, Chakraborty explained, "The Waqf Act serves merely as a pretext. A different agenda lies behind it. The newly introduced Waqf Act is intended for our Muslim brothers and sisters, but the reality is that political figures have appropriated land for their personal gains; some have constructed warehouses, while others have leased them for profit. Had this money been utilized to uplift the Muslim community and assist their women, it would have been a different matter. Yet, these leaders are the ones reaping the benefits."
He continued, “Hindus have been uprooted, their homes devastated. They have never opposed anyone and did not protest, yet their residences were set ablaze and ruined. Now, they are subsisting on khichdi in makeshift accommodations. They have been rendered homeless. What crime did they commit?”
When asked if Muslims are being granted leniency under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's administration, Chakraborty asserted, "If Madam (Mamata Banerjee) wished, she could halt all this within a day. However, she has not taken stringent action against even one individual yet. The scenario is such that now, Sanatani Hindus, Christians, and Sikhs will no longer support this party.
"Their traditional voter base is diminishing, thus to appease their core supporters, they are permitting these incidents to occur. Even if someone dies, it is inconsequential to them."
This situation arises amid escalating political strife in the state following the violence on April 11 in Dhulian area of Murshidabad.
The unrest ignited during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, resulting in three fatalities and multiple injuries.
This incident has sparked a political uproar, with both state and central leaders exchanging blame.
