Mumbai, April 12 (NationPress) Amid ongoing protests in West Bengal regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has vehemently criticized the administration headed by Mamata Banerjee.
On Saturday, senior BJP leader Raj Purohit claimed that the unrest in Murshidabad was instigated by the West Bengal government.
Purohit stated, "The Waqf Amendment Bill has been enacted. This legislation is advantageous for impoverished Muslims, yet some individuals find it intolerable. These are the same individuals who have exploited Waqf resources for their personal benefit."
He further contended, "The demonstrations concerning the Waqf Amendment Act are being manipulated by the Congress, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, and Mamata Banerjee. The violence witnessed in Murshidabad is orchestrated by the state."
Addressing the political implications, Purohit asserted, "As elections near in West Bengal, the Chief Minister is attempting to curry favor with the 32 percent Muslim demographic. She is catering to both Bangladeshi and Rohingya Muslims. Certain factions are unsettled by Union Home Minister Amit Shah's initiative for a Maoist-free India and are striving to incite turmoil. Pakistan and China are unable to accept a robust and unified India."
Targeting Trinamool Congress leader, he remarked, "Mamata Banerjee employs a ‘kill or be killed’ approach to politics. There are distinct categories of Muslims—patriotic, terrorist, and peace-loving Muslims."
Criticizing Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, he added, "Akhilesh and Owaisi are adrift. They are merely causing confusion among Muslims concerning the Waqf Act. The amendment serves the interests of underprivileged Pasmanda Muslims. Amit Shah has never claimed that we are seizing any Muslim's land."
Purohit reinforced that the Waqf Amendment Act is intended to promote fairness and transparency in the management of Waqf properties and that deceptive narratives are being propagated by individuals with ulterior motives.
