New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) Turbulent demonstrations have erupted in various areas of West Bengal regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, prompting strong criticism from the BJP against the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

BJP leaders have accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of pursuing appeasement politics and holding her accountable for the turmoil in Murshidabad.

BJP MLA Hiranmoy Chatterjee stated, “Mamata Banerjee has ignited chaos in Murshidabad. People in Bengal label her a thief, while we refer to her as jihadi. She aims to incite violence, wash her hands in the blood of the people, and protect her position. Her plan is evident to everyone. Whenever significant events unfold, she incites violence and subsequently plays the victim.”

He further asserted, “As the home minister, her department has never been audited. The central government must intervene, and the Governor should take immediate action.”

In response to Mamata Banerjee’s post on X declaring that the Waqf (Amendment) Act would not be executed in Bengal, BJP leader Tapas Roy remarked, “Who is she to determine which laws are to be enforced? Mamata Banerjee and her TMC associates lack comprehension of the Waqf. Her administration has led Bengal into bloodshed. A father and son were killed — it’s devastating.”

BJP leader Anurag Thakur also criticized Mamata Banerjee, asserting, “If the Chief Minister stirs unrest herself, tension will undoubtedly escalate. Her remarks on Waqf incited the public. If the police had acted responsibly during the Murshidabad riots, this tragedy could have been averted. The violence witnessed in Murshidabad could easily spread to other regions. Looting and vandalism disguised as protests are intolerable. The police seem inactive, clearly under orders not to confront the rioters.”

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee claimed that the violence stems from appeasement politics. “Individuals are being killed due to opposition to the Waqf Act. Three lives have been lost in Murshidabad. What relevance does this violence have with the Act? The Act doesn't harm any Muslim, yet misinformation is rampant, and Mamata Banerjee is to blame,” she stated.

BJP leader Dilip Ghosh added, “Hindus are facing persecution in Murshidabad, yet the police deny any incidents. Two individuals have been killed. There is a systematic effort to expel Hindus from Bengal.”
