New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty has sharply condemned the West Bengal government regarding the recent unrest in Murshidabad, which resulted in the deaths of three individuals. He alleged that there have been targeted assaults against the Hindu community, stating that they have become refugees.

In an interview with IANS, Chakraborty expressed, "Hindus have become refugees in Bengal. Bullying and muscle power are rampant here. We do not desire riots or conflicts. Our demand has always been for free and fair elections, yet they consistently obstruct this process."

When questioned about the possibility of Hindus being intentionally targeted in the region, Chakraborty replied, "The Waqf Act serves merely as an excuse. There exists an alternate agenda behind this. The new Waqf Act is intended for our Muslim brothers and sisters, but what is truly occurring is that political figures have seized land for personal gain; some have constructed warehouses, while others have leased them for profit. If this revenue had been utilized to aid the Muslim community, particularly women, it would have been a different matter. Instead, the leaders are reaping the benefits themselves."

He went on to state, "Hindus have been displaced, their homes reduced to ashes. They posed no opposition, did not protest, yet their residences were set ablaze and devastated. Now, they are subsisting on khichdi in makeshift shelters. They have been rendered homeless. What crime did they commit?"

In response to whether Muslims are being given a free rein under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s administration, Chakraborty asserted, "If Madam (Mamata Banerjee) wished, she could put an end to all this within a day. However, she has not taken stringent action against anyone thus far. The reality is that now, Sanatani Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, none of them will cast their votes for this party.

"Their traditional voting base is eroding, so to appease their core voters, they allow these incidents to unfold. The loss of even a single life seems inconsequential to them."

This incident has surfaced amidst growing political unrest in the state following the violence that erupted on April 11 in the Dhulian area of Murshidabad.

The turmoil arose during protests against the Waqf (Amendment) Act, leading to three fatalities and numerous injuries.

The occurrence has ignited a political firestorm, with leadership at both state and central levels exchanging accusations.
