Did the WBSSC Release the Final List for Teacher Recruitment in West Bengal?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Jan 21 (NationPress) The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has officially released the final list of candidates for the recruitment of teachers in state-operated schools for classes 11 and 12 on Wednesday.
The published list features names of those who successfully passed the final interview, along with candidates placed on the waiting list.
A separate list detailing those who were not successful has also been made available.
This announcement pertains to a total of 12,514 vacancies. Reports indicate that the SSC aims to distribute recommendation letters to selected candidates by the end of this month, with distribution expected to start on January 27.
Previously, the WBSSC had indicated that the list would be released ahead of Saraswati Puja on January 23. Despite the Supreme Court extending the deadline to August 2026, the state government is keen to finalize the teacher recruitment process prior to the upcoming Assembly elections later this year.
According to WBSSC sources, the authorities aimed to publish the list before the upcoming government holidays starting from January 22. Efforts are in progress to initiate the counselling process on January 27.
The document verification phase for the recruitment of teachers for classes 11 and 12 was concluded on December 4 of the previous year. Over 20,000 candidates were invited for document verification across 35 subjects.
WBSSC has acknowledged that some candidates were interviewed despite having inaccuracies in their applications. Additionally, there were instances of ineligible candidates with criminal histories participating in interviews. Their names have since been omitted from the list, which has also been published.
Approximately 18,000 candidates are anticipated to receive job recommendation letters, alongside those currently on the waiting list.
In September of last year, the SSC conducted the State Level Selection Test (SLST) in two phases to recruit teachers for classes 9 to 12.
The SLST was conducted after a nine-year hiatus to fill 35,726 teaching posts for classes 9-10 and 11-12. Out of these vacancies, 23,212 positions are allocated for classes 9 and 10, while 12,514 positions are designated for classes 11 and 12.
