Kolkata Hosts WBSSC Group-C Written Exam with Tight Security
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 1 (NationPress) After a prolonged wait, the written examination for the recruitment of Group-C personnel by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) took place in the state on Sunday, under stringent security measures.
Following the release of the final voters' list after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and the presence of central paramilitary forces in the state, the WBSSC implemented additional security and administrative protocols at the examination centers.
Despite the potential for central forces to be deployed at schools and colleges in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections, specific directives were issued to ensure that no central forces were present at the examination centers on the day of the Group-C written exam.
As reported by WBSSC officials, the Group-C examination was conducted at 1,693 centers across the state on Sunday.
Approximately 804,000 candidates applied for this exam, which had 2,989 vacancies.
In addition, the Group-D recruitment exam is scheduled for March 8, with around 809,000 applications submitted for that exam. The total number of exam centers for both Group-C and Group-D is around 3,400.
To ensure safety, several restrictions were enforced for the candidates. Boots or closed-toe shoes were not permitted; only slippers or Hawaiian sandals were allowed.
Candidates were prohibited from bringing any electronic devices, including mobile phones, calculators, jewelry, or extra items. Only the admit card, a clear water bottle, and a pen were permitted.
Group-C candidates were required to enter the examination center by 10 a.m., with no entries allowed after 11:45 a.m. The Group-C examination, which carries a total of 60 marks, concluded at 1:50 p.m.
Candidates from other states also participated in the Group-C examination.
The SSC had communicated with the state's DGP and the Kolkata Police Commissioner regarding the exam. On the eve of the exam, School Service Commission Chairman Siddhartha Majumdar stated, "All preparations for the exam have been finalized, and tight security measures are in place."
