Kolkata, Feb 16 (NationPress) Priyanjali Neogi, spouse of the former Forward Bloc MLA from Chakulia and current Congress figure Ali Imran Ramz, has made grave accusations of physical, mental, and financial abuse against him.

In her own words, "Ram is a public figure but a Ravana at home, exemplifying the duality of my husband's character."

On Monday, Priyanjali Neogi revealed that she has submitted a letter to the senior leadership of the Congress, including prominent leader Rahul Gandhi, requesting organizational action against Ali Imran Ramz.

She has also sought intervention from Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Ali Imran Ramz was elected as a legislator from Chakulia in North Dinajpur district in both 2011 and 2016 under the All India Forward Bloc. He joined the Congress party prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where he was also the candidate for Raiganj but did not win.

Priyanjali Neogi has alleged that the abuse started merely days after their wedding. She stated that her husband struck her while she was expecting their first child, resulting in a miscarriage.

Even after welcoming two children, the abuse persisted, with threats, mental pressure, and financial demands continuing for years.

She recounted, "I entered into marriage at the age of 19 against my family's wishes. After becoming pregnant, fearing a loss of his voter base, we hastily married. They altered my name, and when I spoke about it, he struck me in the abdomen, leading to a miscarriage. The tortures continued even after my second child was born."

She further claimed, "He relentlessly pressured me for dowry, taking approximately 50-60 lakh rupees in jewelry and cash from my sister. Subsequently, both Imran and his mother began to torture me, inflicting physical harm. Despite my attempts to report to the police, my complaints were ignored. After enduring more abuse, I ended up hospitalized and reported him again, yet no action was taken."

Eventually, the couple filed for mutual divorce in the Alipore court in Kolkata. Priyanjali Neogi stated, "He failed to provide the promised divorce. In January 2024, I lodged an FIR against Imran and his mother. They assaulted me again, forcing me into signing an agreement that relinquished all my rights. They confiscated my apartment, financial assets, and jewelry."

"Just last night, when I went to pick up my child, they assaulted me again," she claimed.

However, Ali Imran Ramz has refuted all allegations from his wife. He denied any accusations of violence and stated, "None of these events occurred. The divorce proceedings have been ongoing for three years. I prefer not to discuss this matter as it is currently sub-judice. Why is she raising these claims now, just before the Assembly elections? There must be a conspiracy at play."

In response, Pradesh Congress leader Suman Roy Chaudhuri remarked, "We are not privy to the personal issues of Ali Imran Ramz. The police will undertake legal measures once they ascertain the truth behind the allegations."

He mentioned that the issue will be deliberated at the top levels of the party.
