New Delhi, Nov 10 (NationPress) India's women's head coach Amol Muzumdar highlighted Shree Charani and Kranti Goud as 'ideal representations' of the escalating influence of the Women's Premier League (WPL), asserting that the tournament plays a crucial role in broadening the talent pool within the nation.
Both Charani and Kranti emerged as standout players during the WPL 2025 and subsequently made their debut for India in the ODI tri-series held in Sri Lanka. These promising players quickly became vital to India’s ODI strategy, culminating in the team’s victory at the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup on November 2 in Navi Mumbai.
“Shree Charani and Kranti Goud exemplify the success of the WPL. We spotted their talent during the February tournament, and by May, they were competing at the international level. This clearly demonstrates how the WPL accelerates player development,” remarked Muzumdar.
“Looking ahead, in the next four to five years, we can expect a surge of talented women cricketers emerging from the WPL and local tournaments, significantly enhancing Indian cricket,” he added during an interview on JioStar.
Muzumdar also praised the significant investments made by the BCCI to advance women’s cricket in India, which includes equal match fees for international games and the launch of the WPL in 2023.
“The BCCI's efforts for women's cricket over the past three years have been remarkable. While they took charge in 2006, the recent transformations have been groundbreaking. We have witnessed three editions of the WPL that have unveiled exceptional talent for us to nurture. The pay parity introduced in 2022 was a pivotal decision. Kudos to the BCCI for these incredible initiatives that are now yielding results, evident in our World Cup triumph,” he stated.
For Muzumdar, transitioning to the role of India head coach in 2023 and guiding the team to its first-ever World Cup has been an extraordinary journey. “My first visit to the National Cricket Academy was in November 2023, where I met the Indian team for the first time. From that moment, our mission commenced with a clear objective: to become the world's top team.
“We implemented essential changes in the support staff, team structure, and most importantly, our mindset. All these efforts have now culminated in this World Cup victory. It has been nothing short of magical working with these gifted players, and I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful group of individuals,” he concluded.
