X, Owned by Elon Musk, Enforces New Rules on AI War Videos, Issues Revenue Warnings
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 4 (NationPress) The social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, has unveiled significant revisions to its creator revenue-sharing program aimed at curtailing the proliferation of AI-generated content, particularly during conflict situations.
This initiative is a response to increasing worries about misinformation amidst the escalating tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
X’s Product Head, Nikita Bier, announced that the company is updating its policies on Creator Revenue Sharing to guarantee that reliable information remains accessible, especially in wartime scenarios.
Bier highlighted the challenges posed by swiftly evolving artificial intelligence technologies that facilitate the creation of deceptive videos.
“Recently, we identified an individual in Pakistan managing 31 accounts that were disseminating AI war videos. All these accounts were compromised and their usernames altered on February 27 to titles such as ‘Iran War Monitor’,” Bier remarked.
“We are enhancing our detection capabilities and simultaneously reducing the incentives for these actions,” he added.
According to the new guidelines, users who share AI-generated videos related to armed conflicts without explicit acknowledgment of the AI involvement will face a 90-day suspension from the revenue-sharing program.
Bier warned that repeated offenses could result in a permanent ban from the program. Such posts can be recognized through Community Notes, metadata, and other markers from generative AI technologies.
The platform has also rolled out a “Made with AI” label to be featured on posts, alerting viewers of AI-generated content.
This measure is intended to enhance transparency and mitigate the risks of manipulation.
This policy change is particularly pertinent given the heightened geopolitical tensions following coordinated military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, which reportedly resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
In light of these events, both Elon Musk and Bier recently stated that X has witnessed an unprecedented surge in traffic, as more users turn to the platform for real-time updates.
