Yediyurappa Abhimanotsava on May 9: Vijayendra expects 10 lakh at Chitradurga
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra on Sunday, 3 May declared that former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa is not merely a political leader but a "force" — and that the scale of the 'Abhimanotsava' event in Chitradurga on 9 May would make that unmistakably clear. Vijayendra made the remarks while speaking to the media after visiting the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru, where he invited the junior seer to the celebration honouring Yediyurappa's 50 years in politics.
What the Abhimanotsava Entails
The main stage programme is scheduled to begin at 11 am on 9 May, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah expected to arrive by noon. Vijayendra said the event will be held under Shah's leadership and in the presence of seers and religious heads from across Karnataka.
More than 1,000 pontiffs, seers, and religious leaders are expected to attend, while over 10 lakh supporters — drawn from all Assembly constituencies, spanning Bidar to Chamarajanagar — are anticipated. "There will be a sea of people," Vijayendra said.
Ceremonial Entry and Grand Procession on May 8
As a prelude to the main event, former Chief Minister Yediyurappa will make a ceremonial entry into Chitradurga city on 8 May at 5 pm. The procession will feature more than 25 cultural troupes and is being compared to a "mini Dasara" in scale and grandeur. Farmers and women from across the state are expected to participate in large numbers to welcome Yediyurappa.
Siddaganga Mutt Visit and Blessings Sought
During his visit to the Siddaganga Mutt in Tumakuru, Vijayendra offered special worship at the samadhi of the revered Shivakumara Swamiji, widely known as the "Walking God". He then formally invited the junior seer, Shivashivamurthy Shivacharya Swamiji, to the Abhimanotsava and sought his blessings. He also extended an invitation to Shivasiddheshwara Swamiji of the same mutt.
Logistics and Vijayendra's Appeal
Vijayendra said arrangements are being made to ensure that supporters travelling from different parts of Karnataka face no inconvenience — covering safe travel, food, and hospitality. "This reflects Yediyurappa's concern for the people," he said.
Notably, the BJP State President appealed to all stakeholders not to give the event any political colour, describing it as a rare and special occasion that transcends party lines. Party workers, he said, have organised the programme "with happiness and pride", reflecting the enduring trust that people across Karnataka continue to repose in Yediyurappa. The event marks a significant moment for the BJP as it seeks to consolidate its base in Karnataka ahead of future electoral contests.
