Agra, April 8 (NationPress) In a significant initiative aimed at fostering balanced regional development and urban growth, the Uttar Pradesh government revealed an ambitious vision to reshape Agra into a contemporary, culturally vibrant urban hub through the 'Greater Agra' project.

Taking inspiration from the Greater Noida model, this plan aims to harmonize heritage with modern infrastructure while alleviating population pressures on the swiftly expanding National Capital Region (NCR) cities such as Noida and Gurugram.

Under the broader urban expansion strategy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the project is being spearheaded by the Agra Development Authority as part of the Chief Minister Urban Expansion/New City Promotion Scheme.

Spanning approximately 450 hectares in the villages of Raipur and Rehankalan, the estimated investment for this project is around Rs 5,142 crore.

Uttar Pradesh Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh emphasized that the essence of Greater Agra lies in its rich cultural heritage.

The development will consist of 10 uniquely themed townships, named after significant rivers from Indian history: Sindhupuram, Gomtipuram, Gangapuram, Yamunapuram, Betwapuram, Mahanadipuram, Narmadapuram, Godavaripuram, Krishnapuram, and Kaveripuram. These names symbolize a revival of India's cultural roots within a modern urban setting.

Designed to house approximately 1.5 lakh residents, the project will feature nearly 4,712 plots across various categories including residential, group housing, commercial, and mixed-use.

Each township will be equipped with essential civic amenities such as schools, hospitals, community centers, hotels, banks, post offices, police stations, and fire services, ensuring a self-sufficient urban ecosystem.

The project also emphasizes sustainable and smart urban planning.

Plans include an extensive road network, sewage and water treatment facilities, power substations, and solid waste management systems, positioning Greater Agra as a model for environmentally friendly urban development.

Strategically located near a 100-meter-wide Inner Ring Road, the project ensures seamless connectivity to National Highway-19, Fatehabad Road, and the Yamuna Expressway.

Its proximity to the Yamuna River and easy access to Kuberpur Railway Station further bolster its potential as a hub for mobility, commerce, and tourism.

Green development is a primary focus, with at least 15% of each township dedicated to parks, open spaces, and sports facilities, promoting a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

Among the specialized zones, Yamunapuram is poised to become a commercial center aimed at enhancing business activity, while Kaveripuram will emphasize water-based recreation and tourism, adding a fresh perspective to Agra's tourism offerings beyond its renowned monuments.

Officials believe the project will act as a catalyst for economic growth by creating jobs across various sectors including construction, industry, and services.

Improved connectivity and top-tier infrastructure are also anticipated to attract substantial private investments and corporate interest.

More than a mere housing initiative, Greater Agra is envisioned as a transformative project that marries cultural revival with modern urban planning.

In the coming years, it is expected to redefine Agra's identity and serve as a benchmark for sustainable and inclusive urban development throughout the nation.
