New Delhi, May 16 (NationPress) Over 125 prominent trade leaders from various regions of India convened on Friday to declare a comprehensive boycott of all trade and commercial interactions with Turkey and Azerbaijan, extending to travel and tourism sectors as well.
The trade leaders urged the Indian film industry to refrain from filming in Turkey or Azerbaijan, emphasizing that any such productions would face a boycott from the business community and the public. The resolution also cautioned corporate entities against filming promotional content in these nations.
This decision emerged during a National Conference of Trade Leaders organized by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), which saw participation from representatives of 24 states. The conference expressed unwavering support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a resolute opposition to any actions undermining India's interests during this critical period.
The resolution was prompted by Turkey and Azerbaijan's recent overt support for Pakistan, amid a sensitive national security landscape in India. The Indian trading community perceives this stance as a betrayal, particularly given the historical humanitarian and diplomatic aid India has provided to these countries.
During the event, CAIT Secretary General and Member of Parliament Praveen Khandelwal stated, “It is profoundly regrettable that Turkey and Azerbaijan, who have gained from India's goodwill, aid, and strategic backing during challenging times, have now opted to align with Pakistan—a nation globally recognized for its terrorism support. This stance not only undermines India's sovereignty but also offends the sentiments of 1.4 billion Indians.
The conference highlighted Turkey's persistent anti-India rhetoric on international platforms and its ongoing support for Pakistan's narrative as unacceptable, while Azerbaijan's alignment with Turkey and public endorsements of Pakistan's position display a troubling disregard for India's longstanding friendship.
CAIT National President BC Bhartia conveyed the traders' strong discontent and disappointment towards both nations, labeling their actions as “ungrateful and hostile.” It was collectively agreed that such countries do not merit economic cooperation or trade privileges from India.
The trade leaders commended the government’s decision to revoke security clearance for the Turkish company Celebi, which manages services at nine major airports in India, as a necessary measure for national security.
CAIT also announced plans to initiate a nationwide awareness campaign aimed at educating and mobilizing traders, consumers, and travel professionals to participate in this boycott.
