3M India Q2 profit falls 17% to ₹158 crore; stock hits 52-week low
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
3M India Limited reported a 17.2 per cent decline in consolidated net profit to ₹158 crore for the second quarter ended 30 September 2026, down from ₹191 crore in the year-ago period. Shares of the company closed nearly 10 per cent lower at ₹26,400.05 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Friday — touching a fresh 52-week low.
Revenue Growth Could Not Offset Margin Pressure
Despite the profit decline, the company's sales and other operating income grew 14.7 per cent year-on-year to ₹1,452 crore in Q2 FY27, against ₹1,266 crore in Q2 FY26. On a sequential basis, revenue edged up 2.1 per cent from ₹1,423 crore in Q1 FY27.
Profitability metrics told a harsher story. EBITDA fell 12.7 per cent to ₹234 crore from ₹268 crore a year earlier, while profit before tax (PBT) contracted 15.3 per cent to ₹212 crore from ₹251 crore. The sequential picture was sharper still — PAT dropped 32 per cent from ₹233 crore in Q1 FY27, underscoring a meaningful quarter-on-quarter earnings deterioration even as revenues held up.
Segment Performance: Electronics and Consumer Lead Growth
Across business segments, Transportation and Electronics was the standout performer, growing 23.4 per cent. The Consumer segment followed with 19.5 per cent growth, while Safety and Industrial expanded 11.8 per cent. Healthcare posted the most modest gain at 4.1 per cent.
Managing Director Aseem Joshi said the company 'delivered broad-based growth driven by continued focus on commercial and innovation excellence.' The segment-level growth numbers support that characterisation on the topline, though margin compression has clearly offset the revenue momentum.
Board Director Resignation Adds to Investor Concern
Alongside the earnings release, 3M India disclosed the resignation of Non-Executive Director Kong Sau Wai Elizabeth from its board, effective from close of business hours on 6 November 2026. She will step down from all board committees simultaneously.
In her resignation letter, she stated: 'I am writing to inform you of my decision to resign from the position of Non-Executive Director of 3M India Limited from the close of India business hours on November 6, 2026, as I will soon be moving on to another professional opportunity outside the 3M Group.'
Board-level exits, while not uncommon, tend to compound negative sentiment around earnings misses — particularly when announced on results day.
Stock Falls to 52-Week Low
The market reaction was swift. Shares of 3M India ended Friday's session at ₹26,400.05, a fall of nearly 10 per cent, with the closing price coinciding exactly with the stock's 52-week low. The 52-week high stands at ₹38,300, implying a peak-to-trough decline of roughly 31 per cent from the top.
The result puts 3M India's near-term earnings trajectory under scrutiny, with investors likely to focus on whether margin recovery is achievable in the second half of FY27 even as revenue momentum continues.
