BSE Q2 FY27 profit drops 7% to ₹809 crore as revenue slides 8.5%
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
BSE Limited on Wednesday, 4 November 2026 reported a sequential moderation in earnings for the September quarter (Q2 FY27), with net profit, revenue, and operating profit all easing from the record highs posted in the June quarter (Q1 FY27). Despite the quarterly pullback, year-on-year performance remained robust across all key financial metrics.
Quarterly Earnings Snapshot
The exchange posted a net profit of ₹809.15 crore for the quarter ended September 2026, a decline of 7.4% from ₹874.02 crore in the preceding quarter. Revenue fell 8.5% quarter-on-quarter to ₹1,432.6 crore from ₹1,566.02 crore, while EBITDA slipped 8.2% to ₹984 crore from ₹1,071.9 crore.
Even as absolute earnings moderated, profitability held firm. EBITDA margin ticked up marginally to 68.7% from 68.45% in the June quarter, indicating cost discipline even during a revenue dip.
Strong Year-on-Year Growth
Measured against the same period a year ago, BSE delivered significantly stronger numbers. Net profit surged 44.9% from ₹558.43 crore in Q2 FY26, while revenue climbed 34.1% from ₹1,068.4 crore. EBITDA jumped 42.4% from ₹690.9 crore, and the EBITDA margin expanded to 68.7% from 64.66% a year earlier — a meaningful improvement in operating efficiency.
Board Approvals and Expansion Plans
Alongside the quarterly results, BSE's board approved the appointment of Ashutosh Singh as Executive Director – Business (Vertical 3) for a five-year term effective 30 November 2026, subject to shareholder ratification.
The exchange also confirmed it has accepted an offer from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the allotment of a plot at Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai. The site is earmarked for developing additional premises and infrastructure facilities. The allotment remains subject to documentation, regulatory conditions, and execution of definitive agreements with the MMRDA.
Market Reaction
Shares of BSE settled 1.75% lower at ₹3,601.50 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) ahead of the earnings announcement, shedding ₹64.20 from the previous close. The stock's pre-results dip suggests markets had already begun pricing in a sequential earnings moderation.
With a new senior appointment, a planned infrastructure expansion at Bandra Kurla Complex, and year-on-year growth remaining in strong double digits, BSE appears focused on positioning itself for the next phase of growth even as the quarter-on-quarter optics soften.
