70% of Indian Workforce Eager to Acquire New Job Skills for Future Needs

New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) Approximately 70% of Indian employees are eager to adopt new job skills in practical situations, emphasizing the critical need for companies to address the disparity between their current capabilities and upcoming demands, as indicated by a report published on Friday.

Additionally, there has been a marked rise in both the existing and prospective workforce's willingness to engage with the gig economy, as per findings from the job search platform Indeed and Nasscom.

About 35% of individuals in both groups indicated a readiness to explore gig roles, which marks a significant increase from 23% among the current workforce and 28% among the future workforce recorded last year.

In the tech sector, essential skills driving the demand for gig positions include generative AI and automation, information and cyber security, digital transformation, solution architecture, and data engineering.

“Technological advancements, especially in AI and ML, are instigating a shift in the job market, redefining the skills needed—encompassing both technical know-how and soft skills,” stated Sangeeta Gupta, Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer at Nasscom.

She added that technology firms must adopt strategies and frameworks that align with changing dynamics and remain adaptable to the ongoing evolution of the workforce ecosystem.

With the growing integration of AI across various organizational roles, AI/ML and analytics continue to be the leading job categories, while cybersecurity has surpassed Cloud to become the second most desired field.

The top five job roles in demand include data scientist/analyst, AI/ML expert, cybersecurity specialist, cloud architect/engineer, and DevOps engineer.

In response, HR leaders are prioritizing core technical capabilities, a robust learning attitude, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills as key selection criteria, according to the report.

Both current and future employees consider proficiency in AI/GenAI, creativity, communication, and leadership abilities as essential for achieving success.

The use of GenAI tools has dramatically surged in the past year, shifting from experimental phases to widespread commercial use.

“By merging human creativity with AI-driven innovation, companies can confidently navigate this new era of work,” remarked Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India.
