Ayush Sector Surges to $43.4 Billion in 2023, Exports Reach $2.16 Billion: Shripad Yesso Naik

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The Ministry of Ayush has undergone a remarkable transformation over the past decade, with the Ayush market expanding significantly from $2.85 billion in 2014 to $43.4 billion in 2023, stated Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik on Monday.

He highlighted that exports have doubled from $1.09 billion to $2.16 billion, marking the country as a global leader in traditional medicine.

Since its establishment in 2014, the Ayush Ministry has propelled significant improvements in public health, education, research, and economic growth, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Naik elaborated on the important progress made in the Ayush sector by emphasizing the Ministry's initiatives to incorporate traditional Indian medicine into mainstream healthcare.

The Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power commended the Ministry for enhancing Ayush infrastructure across the nation.

He mentioned that thanks to the Ministry’s efforts, the country now boasts over 755,780 registered Ayush practitioners, 886 undergraduate and 251 postgraduate colleges with an annual capacity of 59,643 UG students and 7,450 PG students.

Additionally, around 3,844 Ayush hospitals and 36,848 dispensaries have been established, with over 43,000 studies available on the Ayush Research Portal, underscoring evidence-based healthcare.

The Ministry has also spearheaded digital modernization through initiatives like Ayush Grid, e-Sanjeevani telemedicine, and AI integration to enhance healthcare delivery.

Ayush Telemedicine has successfully delivered quality healthcare to remote areas, Naik noted.

“The global footprint of Ayush has been significantly bolstered through strategic partnerships and initiatives,” he added.

The Ministry has signed 24 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) at the country-to-country level, and 48 institute-to-institute MoUs, promoting collaborative research.

Currently, Ayush Information Cells operate in 39 locations across 35 countries, serving as crucial centers for knowledge dissemination and global awareness, Naik remarked.

The Ministry has collaborated with over 103 countries to promote Ayush systems, and established the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre in Jamnagar, leading to the acknowledgment of traditional medicine in ICD-11 in 2024, Naik stated.
