New Delhi, April 19 (NationPress) To enhance evidence-based policy formulation and effective governance, the government announced on Saturday the organization of a "Data Users’ Conference" in partnership with the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) in Mumbai.

As part of its ongoing efforts to reinforce connections with data users and other stakeholders, the National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), is set to hold the conference at the IGIDR campus in Goregaon (East), Mumbai, on April 21.

The "Data Users’ Conference" will be presided over by Dr. Saurabh Garg, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Approximately 250 attendees, including researchers, academicians, economists, representatives from industrial associations, policymakers, international organizations, private survey firms, and respected academic institutions, will participate in the event.

Members of the National Statistical Commission (NSC) and various technical committees will also be in attendance.

The ministry carries out extensive sample surveys to produce vital economic indicators in significant areas such as employment, unemployment, consumption expenditure, and industrial statistics.

It also generates crucial macroeconomic indicators, including National Accounts and Price Indices. These data sets are fundamental for evidence-based policy formulation and effective governance in India.

As stated by the ministry, the conference aims to foster dialogue between data producers and users, encouraging knowledge sharing and discussions on the latest advancements in the field.

The technical sessions on National Sample Surveys will offer an overview of sampling design, computation of multipliers, and parameter estimation in NSS household surveys.

Additionally, key insights from the Household Consumption Expenditure Surveys (HCES) for 2022–23 and 2023–24 will be shared, drawing from recent data releases.

Furthermore, recent updates in the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) methodology will be discussed to improve users' comprehension and interpretation, according to the ministry.
