New Delhi, June 2 (NationPress) Over 6.1 crore farmers across 14 states in India now possess digital IDs akin to the Aadhar card, which are integrated with their land records, as per the recent data released by the government.
These digital IDs, developed under the Agri Stack initiative as part of the Digital Agriculture Mission, are managed by various State Governments and Union Territories. They will be associated with a range of farmer-related information, such as land records, livestock ownership, types of crops grown, and benefits received. This system will also facilitate quicker access to credit, crop insurance, and payments from PM Kisan.
Uttar Pradesh leads with the highest number of generated farmer IDs at 1.3 crore, followed by Maharashtra (99 lakh), Madhya Pradesh (83 lakh), Andhra Pradesh (45 lakh), Gujarat (44 lakh), and Rajasthan (75 lakh).
States including Tamil Nadu, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Kerala, and Telangana are also making strides in issuing these IDs, according to the statistics.
The Digital Agriculture Mission received approval from the Union Cabinet Committee, which is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in 2024, with a significant budget allocation of Rs. 2,817 Crore, including a central government contribution of Rs. 1,940 Crore.
This initiative aims to establish digital identities for 11 crore farmers over a period of three years (6 crore in FY 2024-25, 3 crore in FY 2025-26, and 2 crore in FY 2026-27).
Additionally, the mission plans to implement a nationwide Digital Crop Survey within two years, covering 400 districts in FY 2024-25 and all districts in FY 2025-26.
The AgriStack platform offers extensive data regarding farmers' demographics, land holdings, and crop information, allowing farmers to digitally verify their identities for accessing various benefits and services, such as credit and insurance.
This development also enables state authorities to create solutions that facilitate farmers' access to the digital economy, including the online purchase and sale of agricultural inputs and produce in a trustworthy environment.
