ESIC Revamps IT Infrastructure to Enhance Healthcare Services for Millions

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) In a major initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare services and the overall delivery system for millions, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) announced on Tuesday that it has upgraded its information and IT systems.

The Dhanwantari Hospital Information System (HIS) is now being utilized more extensively across ESIC hospitals and dispensaries, showing a 40 percent increase in its adoption rate. This advancement allows healthcare professionals to manage patient care and hospital operations more effectively, as stated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment.

According to the ministry, “The connection pool for concurrent users of the Dhanwantari Module and the Insurance Module has been significantly increased.”

Furthermore, the ESIC’s Dhanwantari Module facilitates improved accessibility to patient records and previous medical history, thereby ensuring enhanced patient care.

The total number of transactions has surged by 50 percent since the start of the current financial year and continues to rise steadily.

“After boosting the number of concurrent users tenfold in September 2024, the incidents reported have dropped to one-third. Only 93 incidents have been reported for 1.5 crore transactions,” the ESIC disclosed.

Additionally, ESIC has upgraded its IT systems, encompassing hardware, middleware, software, and network solutions. These enhancements make the system faster, more secure, and user-friendly for all stakeholders across ESIC facilities.

This transition is part of an ongoing operations and maintenance contract with the current system integrator, costing a total of Rs 312 crore for 3 years.

Meanwhile, the ESIC mobile application has been enhanced to provide a more user-friendly interface and new features.

Online appointment bookings have experienced remarkable growth, with a 200 percent increase from 2022 to 2023, followed by an additional 177 percent growth from 2023 to 2024.

In October, approximately 17.80 lakh new employees were enrolled under the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) scheme.

The ESI Scheme provides medical care through 165 hospitals, 1,590 dispensaries, 105 dispensary-cum-branch-offices (DCBOs), and around 2,900 empanelled private hospitals.
