New Delhi, Oct 16 (NationPress) Global personal computer (PC) shipments saw a notable increase of 8.2%, reaching 69.9 million units in the third quarter of 2025. This surge was primarily driven by the Windows 10 end-of-support (EOS) refresh cycle and a rising demand for AI PCs, according to a report released on Thursday.
The report from Gartner indicated that the AI PC segment is projected to capture 31% of total shipments by 2025, a significant rise from 15% in 2024, reflecting a pivotal shift in market focus and innovation.
“In the third quarter of 2025, the global PC shipments were influenced by the Windows 10 EOS refresh cycle across many regions. However, growth in North America was restricted to 1.6%, as demand had surged in the first half of the year due to expected import tariffs,” stated Rishi Padhi, Research Principal at Gartner.
Padhi also noted the industry's transition towards AI PCs featuring integrated NPUs for improved on-device AI functionalities.
Nonetheless, consumer demand at lower price ranges has remained weak, affected by ongoing geopolitical and macroeconomic challenges. Consumers are adopting cautious spending habits, postponing PC purchases while on the lookout for promotional deals, he added.
No significant changes were observed in the global vendor rankings during the third quarter of 2025. Among the top five vendors, Lenovo recorded the highest growth in global PC shipments, increasing by 16.6% year-over-year. All top five vendors witnessed growth in shipments during this quarter.
Lenovo held its position as the market leader with approximately 19.4 million units sold, obtaining a 27.8% market share. HP Inc. shipped around 15 million units, achieving a 21.5% market share, marking a 10.6% increase from the third quarter of 2024. Dell, Apple, and ASUS shipped around 10.2 million, 6.2 million, and 5.4 million units, respectively.
