Is Google Unveiling New Gemini-Powered AI Features in Gmail?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) Google has unveiled plans to introduce innovative experiences powered by Gemini, including the AI Inbox, aimed at delivering more insightful and personalized assistance to users.
The latest features have begun their rollout in the United States for Gmail users, in addition to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as reported by the company.
Blake Barnes, VP Product of Gmail, stated in a blog post, “We're beginning with English and are enthusiastic about expanding to more languages and regions in the following months.”
The AI Inbox acts as a personal briefing tool, emphasizing tasks and providing updates on significant matters.
According to Barnes, “It assists in prioritizing by identifying your VIPs based on indicators such as frequent email contacts, individuals in your address book, and inferred relationships from message content. Importantly, this analysis is conducted securely, ensuring your data remains under your control.”
He further noted, “We’re granting trusted testers access to AI Inbox prior to its broader availability in the coming months.”
Similar to Google Search, AI Overviews transform information into direct answers without the need for extensive digging.
When an email with numerous replies is opened, Gmail synthesizes the entire conversation into a succinct summary of the main points.
Google explained, “When you pose a question to your inbox, we utilize Gemini to create a straightforward AI Overview with the answer.” AI Overview conversation summaries are being rolled out for free for all users.
Starting today, everyone can access ‘Help Me Write’ to refine emails or create them from scratch. There are also new Suggested Replies (an enhancement of Smart Replies) that leverage the context of your conversation to present relevant, one-click responses matching your writing style.
Both Help Me Write and Suggested Replies will be available to all users at no cost, while the Proofread feature is exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Next month, the company plans to enhance Help Me Write with improved personalization by integrating context from your other Google applications.
Currently, 3 billion users depend on Gmail for communication and productivity. AI has played a significant role in this, ranging from Smart Replies to AI-enhanced spam filtering.
