Srinagar, June 12 (NationPress) The advisor to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Nasir Aslam Wani, stated on Thursday that both the government and the residents of the union territory are keen on enhancing tourism in Leh-Kargil and J&K collectively.

During a media interaction while welcoming members of the Kashmir Travel Agents Association in Kargil, Wani emphasized the importance of fostering connections with Ladakh to promote tourism across the region.

“Our vision is the simultaneous growth of Leh, Ladakh, and J&K as tourism serves as a vital link between us. Kargil stands out as a premier destination and the tourism hub of Ladakh. Adventure enthusiasts and trekkers have frequented both Kargil and Leh. This shared aspect unites us, and we aspire to progress in unison,” Wani remarked.

He mentioned that from the nation’s capital, Delhi, Kashmir is just a one-hour flight away and can now also be accessed via a rail journey in a matter of hours.

“If you aim for Switzerland, you have an even more remarkable destination right here. Everything you wish to experience in Switzerland is available in Kashmir, and we offer even more,” he highlighted.

He commended the efforts of local tour and travel operators for incorporating Leh and Kargil into their itineraries to enhance tourism.

“This reflects the altruistic intentions of local tour and travel operators who are dedicated to the development of the entire region, including Leh and Kargil.

“We need to convey the message that Kashmir is safe and tourists need not worry. The Chief Minister is directly overseeing tourism, and he personally attends every tourism-related event,” Wani added.

It is important to remember that Kashmir witnessed a tourism surge before the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

Terrorists linked to Pakistan took the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 tourists and a local, with victims targeted due to their religion.

Following the attack, the tourist influx to the valley significantly decreased.
