Bhubaneswar, Nov 6 (NationPress) In the midst of a heated exchange regarding Leader of Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik's recent claim of "betrayal" at an election gathering in the upcoming Nuapada bypoll, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi retaliated on Thursday, accusing the opposition party of engaging in numerous acts of betrayal in past elections.
During a public gathering at the Komna block in the Nuapada Assembly constituency, CM Majhi criticized Patnaik and other BJD officials for labeling BJP candidate Jay Dholakia, the son of the late BJD Nuapada MLA Rajendra Dholakia, whose demise prompted the bypoll, a "traitor".
Majhi commented that it would have been prudent for the scriptwriter of Patnaik's speech, known for his civility, to elucidate the term "traitor".
He proceeded to reference various incidents that he claimed demonstrated betrayal by the BJD during its governance.
"Did not the BJD commit betrayal when it recruited a Congress leader and presented him as its candidate in the Bijepur elections? Who enticed the BJP’s designated candidate in Kakatpur with a ministerial position? The BJD must provide clarity on that. Likewise, the former Leader of Opposition from Congress in the Narla-Kesinga region of undivided Kalahandi was also absorbed into the BJD. Who was the actual betrayer back then?" CM Majhi questioned.
"Thus, it is inappropriate for the BJD president to accuse the family of the late Rajendra Dholakia of being traitors while the party itself has been involved in several such situations in the past," he further stated.
Majhi also criticized the BJD for presenting what he referred to as an "outsider", Snehangini Chhuria from the Atabira area of Bargarh district, as its candidate for the Nuapada bypoll.
He affirmed that "a dedicated and local youth like Jay Dholakia is the best fit" to represent the constituency.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the goal of a developed Odisha cannot be achieved without the advancement of Nuapada and assured that Dholakia would complete the remaining tasks of his late father.
Earlier today, Majhi, alongside numerous senior BJP leaders and the party's candidate for the Nuapada bypoll, Jay Dholakia, engaged in a grand roadshow at the Komna block of the district.
