Hisar, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Kisan Diwas was commemorated at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University on Tuesday, where numerous farmers were recognized for spearheading the shift to natural farming and inspiring others to embrace the organic approach.
The ceremony featured Prof. B.R. Kamboj, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, as the chief guest.
Ashish Mehta, a farmer from Sukera Kheda village in Sirsa, received the Kisan Ratna Award, along with a memento, certificate, and a cash prize of Rs. 31,000.
As a progressive and technologically adept farmer, he has effectively embraced organic farming while cultivating a range of crops including paddy, wheat, cotton, sugarcane, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, and fruits.
He has also introduced an eco-friendly alternative to the stubble burning issue, enhancing soil health and field productivity.
Additionally, he is a trained drone pilot, facilitating precise spraying, crop monitoring, and reducing costs. Through the implementation of drip and micro-sprinkler irrigation, alongside organic vegetable nurseries and dairy farming, he has transformed agriculture into a comprehensive enterprise.
Alongside him, one male and one female farmer from each district of the state were also honored for their exceptional contributions.
During the event, Vice-Chancellor Professor B.R. Kamboj mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision is for India to become a developed nation by 2047.
“To achieve this, we must preserve our natural resources. As part of this initiative, we are promoting natural farming and the cultivation of coarse grains,” he emphasized.
He also added that the Haryana Agricultural University is at the forefront of developing new crop varieties, recently creating a new mustard variety that is gaining popularity among farmers.
The Vice-Chancellor highlighted that in order to turn the innovative business ideas of our youth into successful enterprises, the university has set up an Agri-Business Incubation Centre.
Ashish Mehta, the recipient of the Kisan Ratna Award, shared that he has worked diligently to maximize yield while minimizing pesticide usage.
He also mentioned that he has been focused on crop residue management for the past decade.
