Srinagar, Dec 24 (NationPress) On Wednesday, security forces successfully recovered a total of ten balloons displaying a Pakistani flag in the northern region of Jammu and Kashmir, situated near the Line of Control (LoC), thereby intensifying vigilance and monitoring in these critical areas.
Officials reported that the Pakistani flag affixed to approximately ten balloons was observed descending near Sarna Top in the Khadinayar locality of Baramulla district in J&K.
“The item was detected by a patrol unit from the Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles during their standard area surveillance. The balloons along with the flag were promptly confiscated and taken for further analysis,” the officials stated.
In another incident, a balloon inscribed with the Pakistan International Airlines logo was discovered perched atop a tree in an orchard located in Naugam, in the Handwara region of Kupwara district, also near the LoC.
This balloon was spotted by local residents who then alerted the security forces. Army personnel arrived at the scene and retrieved the object, as per official reports.
Further information is pending.
The Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir stretches for 740 kilometers, protected by the army across Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora districts, as well as in parts of Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu districts.
Additionally, a 240-km-long international border exists in the Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts, overseen by the Border Security Force (BSF).
The Army and BSF work to prevent infiltration, exfiltration, cross-border smuggling, and drone operations originating from the Pakistani side, which are suspected to transport arms, ammunition, cash, and drugs to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Local police alongside security forces are engaged in anti-terrorism operations within the interior regions, targeting terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers to dismantle the entire support infrastructure for terrorism in the union territory.
Drug traffickers, peddlers, and individuals linked to hawala money laundering and other illegal activities are also under scrutiny by the security forces. It is believed that the funds obtained from these illicit activities are ultimately utilized to finance terrorism in the region.
