Jammu, March 12 (NationPress) A balloon displaying a Pakistani flag and name was discovered on Wednesday in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, situated on the Indian side of the International Border (IB).
According to officials, the suspicious balloon was located in Palauna village of the Ghagwal sector early in the morning, causing a significant alarm.
“The balloon was marked with Pakistan's name and flag. A local woman found it in the fields and promptly alerted nearby residents and the police post in Ghagwal. The police team arrived and confiscated the balloon,” officials reported.
“Currently, the police are probing the origin of this balloon and investigating if there is a possible conspiracy involved. Similar incidents of balloons being discovered in border regions have occurred previously, prompting security agencies to take the situation seriously,” they added.
Terrorist organizations, aided by Pakistan’s ISI, have utilized drones for smuggling arms, ammunition, drugs, and cash to perpetuate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
These drones are intended to be retrieved by terrorists or their overground workers (OGWs) from predetermined locations.
At times, these groups have even been found excavating tunnels beneath the International Border to facilitate infiltration and transport of weapons.
The Border Security Force (BSF), responsible for guarding the International Border in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts, has implemented a comprehensive anti-drone strategy.
Thanks to this mechanism, the frequency of drone sightings and landings has significantly decreased in recent months.
The Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir spans 740 km, while the International Border (IB) with Pakistan measures 480 km.
Drones have frequently been employed by terrorist groups along both the LoC and the IB.
The Indian Army secures the LoC, whereas the BSF is tasked with protecting the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.
