Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jammu, January 26 (NationPress) — A Pakistani intruder met his end along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district after being shot by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, as reported by officials on Monday.
According to officials, the incident occurred late Sunday night when the Pakistani national attempted to infiltrate into Indian territory through a border outpost in the Majra area of the Ramgarh sector.
BSF troops, on high alert, detected the movement and issued warnings to the intruder. However, despite their alerts, he continued to advance toward the Indian side under the cover of darkness, prompting the troops to open fire, which led to his demise, the officials noted.
“The body of the deceased Pakistani national remains near the International Border on the Pakistani side,” they added.
Further details are pending.
The International Border in Jammu and Kashmir spans 240 kilometers across the districts of Samba, Kathua, and Jammu. The BSF is responsible for securing this border, while the Pakistani Rangers manage the opposite side.
Additionally, the union territory features a 740-km-long Line of Control (LoC) traversing the Baramulla, Bandipora, Kupwara districts in Kashmir, as well as Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu district, which is guarded by the Army.
The Army and BSF are tasked with preventing infiltration, trans-border smuggling, and drone activities initiated from Pakistan.
These drones are reportedly employed by terrorist groups, allegedly with the backing of Pakistani forces, to deliver arms, cash, and drugs into J&K.
The payloads are then collected by overground workers (OGWs) associated with these terror outfits and passed on to militants.
The J&K Police and security forces conduct anti-terror operations within the region, which also encompass anti-smuggling efforts. It is believed that funds sourced from drug trafficking and hawala networks are ultimately utilized to sustain terrorism in the region.
