Jammu, May 9 (NationPress) Seven terrorists were eliminated on Friday by the troops of the Border Security Force (BSF) during an attempt to breach the International Border in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to BSF sources, a well-armed contingent of terrorists, supported by fire cover from Pakistan rangers, attempted to infiltrate into Indian territory in Samba.

“During this thwarted infiltration attempt, seven terrorists were killed. The operation is ongoing in the vicinity,” sources reported.

After alert troops neutralized drones and low-range missiles targeting defense installations in Jammu, Samba, R.S. Pura, and other regions, the terrorists, with assistance from Pakistani forces, made a failed infiltration attempt in Samba.

A BSF spokesperson confirmed that a significant infiltration attempt was thwarted around 11 p.m. on Thursday night, forcing the terrorists to retreat back into Pakistan.

In a separate incident, a woman lost her life and another sustained injuries due to heavy mortar shelling from Pakistan on civilian areas in the Uri sector of Baramulla district late Thursday.

Officials reported that a vehicle traveling from Razerwani to Baramulla was struck by a shell fired across the Line of Control (LoC) near Mohura.

The deceased woman was identified as Nargis Begum, while another woman, Hafeeza Begum, was injured. The Pakistan Army has been consistently engaging in heavy mortar shelling in Uri, Tangdhar, Poonch, Rajouri on the LoC, and Samba on the International Border.

Drones and missiles aimed at Jammu airport and other defense sites were intercepted successfully by a robust air defense system implemented by the Armed Forces.

A complete blackout was enforced in Jammu and Srinagar after sirens alerted residents of a potential attack. Power has since been restored in both cities.

Due to the prevailing tensions, educational institutions including schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday and Saturday.

Education Minister Sakina Itoo announced that, in consideration of student safety, all educational establishments will be shuttered for the next two days.

Registrar of Kashmir University Naseer Iqbal also confirmed that classes would be suspended on Friday.
