Jammu, June 15 (NationPress) Vigilant Army troops successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. Ongoing searches are being conducted following the detection of suspicious movement in the Poonch district.
Officials reported that alert forces observed unusual activity in the Baratgala area of the Keri sector in Rajouri district.
“Upon spotting suspicious movement near the LoC, the alert troops opened fire on the suspected intruders, compelling them to retreat back into the Pakistani territory,” officials stated. Following this, searches have commenced to secure the area along the LoC.
In a separate anti-terror operation, security forces initiated searches along the LoC in Poonch district after receiving reports from locals about suspicious movement in the vicinity, according to officials.
The security forces have intensified their operations against terrorists, their overground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha has consistently urged security forces to dismantle the terror ecosystem to completely eradicate terrorism from the union territory.
The Lieutenant Governor believes that while targeting terrorists remains a priority for the Army and security forces, the complete eradication of terrorism hinges on dismantling the supporting infrastructure.
Drug smuggling and trafficking linked to Pakistan are also critical targets for the security forces.
Intelligence agencies report that funds generated through hawala money and drug trafficking are ultimately used to sustain terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
Extraordinary vigilance is being exercised by security forces, with the deployment of additional companies of CAPFs to ensure the safety of this year’s Amarnath Yatra, which commences on July 3 and concludes on August 9, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals.
The Amarnath Yatra occurs in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, who are supported by Pakistan.
A total of 26 civilians were tragically killed in the Baisaran meadow attack, including 25 tourists and a local pony owner.
