Jammu, Sep 1 (NationPress) A terrorist infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district was successfully thwarted by the Army on Monday, leading to an ongoing anti-terrorist operation in the region.
According to officials, vigilant soldiers responded to the suspicious activities of suspected terrorists near the LoC in the Balakot sector of Poonch district, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
“When troops observed unusual movements along the LoC, they promptly opened fire. The ensuing confrontation led to intense firing between the Army and the suspected infiltrators.
“The operation is still ongoing, and more information will follow,” officials stated.
On August 28, two terrorists were eliminated during another infiltration attempt foiled by the Army in the Gurez sector of the LoC in Bandipora district. One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Bagu Khan, a Pakistani operative infamously known as 'human GPS'. Bagu Khan, also referred to as 'Samundar Chacha', was sought by security forces for decades due to his involvement in over 100 infiltration attempts since 1995.
Officials noted that he was familiar with all infiltration routes and had a reputation for facilitating them without detection—hence his nickname 'human GPS'.
An identity card belonging to Bagu Khan was recovered, confirming his status as a resident of Pakistan, as per official reports.
In an unrelated event on August 28, a soldier was lost during operational duties in Kupwara district. The soldier, identified as Havildar Ikbal Ali, was remembered for his bravery and commitment.
“His valor and dedication will always inspire us. We express our solidarity with the grieving family and remain committed to supporting them,” stated the Army.
Following the suspension of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan-backed terrorists have resumed infiltration attempts along the 740-km-long LoC in J&K, which the Army diligently guards. However, India remains steadfast in its commitment to continuing the operation.
While the Army secures the LoC, security forces and the J&K Police are actively conducting robust anti-terrorist operations in the interior regions.
