Jammu, Feb 7 (NationPress) On Friday, a deadly landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) resulted in the death of five Pakistani terrorists who were attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

According to official sources, the militants met their end in the landmine blast while trying to cross the LoC in the Battal sector of Poonch.

Reports indicate that the terrorists were making their way into Indian territory when one of them inadvertently stepped on a landmine.

“The moment one of them triggered the landmine, a massive explosion ensued, killing all five militants. They were also in possession of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which exploded as well, compounding the destruction,” the sources disclosed.

The Indian Army has strategically placed landmines in the LoC area to thwart infiltration attempts by terrorists.

Alongside advanced night vision tools, electronic surveillance, and human readiness, the landmines play a crucial role in the anti-infiltration strategy in J&K.

The region adjacent to the LoC is often referred to as ‘no man’s land’, indicating it is off-limits to unauthorized personnel.

Security forces and the Indian Army have intensified their vigilance along the LoC and in the hinterland of J&K, especially as this season has seen minimal snowfall, leaving the mountain routes accessible to terrorists.

Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security meeting regarding J&K.

During the meeting, the Home Minister emphasized the need for ‘zero infiltration’ and ‘zero tolerance’ towards terrorist activities.

This meeting followed the tragic murder of an ex-serviceman, Manzoor Ahmad Wagay, by terrorists in the Kulgam district of the Valley.

In this incident, the former soldier’s wife and daughter sustained injuries due to the terrorist attack.

The killing of the ex-serviceman stirred political controversy in J&K, with local leaders from the ruling National Conference, Congress, and the Peoples Democratic Party condemning the central government for asserting that normalcy prevails in the Union Territory.
