Jammu, April 2 (NationPress) Following three suspicious mine explosions on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, intense firing from the Indian Army has reportedly led to five casualties among the Pakistani Army and militants.
The clashes occurred late on Tuesday night.
Defence sources indicate that the Pakistan Army and militants suffered five losses during their attempt to facilitate the infiltration of terrorists from the Krishna Ghati (KG) sector of the LoC in Poonch district.
This intrusion attempt coincided with three significant explosions on the LoC, although no official commentary on the incident has been released.
Sources reported that the Pakistan Army initiated fire to provide cover for infiltrating terrorists on Tuesday evening, but alert Indian forces quickly retaliated, resulting in a brief exchange of fire.
Earlier on Tuesday, the three blasts were linked to a terrorist infiltration attempt.
“The intrusion attempt by terrorists, supported by the Pakistan Army, has been effectively repelled,” sources stated.
These sources confirmed at least five casualties among both terrorists and the Pakistan Army.
However, the precise number of casualties remains unconfirmed.
The Pakistan Army has continuously sought to push terrorists across the border to instigate unrest, but these efforts have been thwarted by troops maintaining a high state of readiness along the LoC in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
“The exact number of terrorists and Pakistan Army personnel killed on the LoC is still unknown, but there was significant activity observed on the Pakistan side, with ambulances frequently transporting individuals across the LoC in the KG sector.
“A ceasefire has been in effect between the Indian and Pakistan Armies along the LoC and International Border since February 2021. This ceasefire has generally been upheld, with occasional violations from the Pakistan side aimed at facilitating terrorist infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir,” sources reported.
In the meantime, security forces have initiated search operations across five locations in the Poonch district on Wednesday.
These operations are part of heightened security measures aimed at ensuring vigilance in the border area, according to officials.
Joint teams from the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the police and units of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) conducted these operations.
The areas targeted include both hinterland and border regions such as Behramgalla-Chatran Sailan, Kala Jhoola, and the Nakka Nar forest in Gursai Mastandara Jabri and Chajala-Seagi areas of Mankote.
