Jammu, April 2 (NationPress) The Ministry of Defence (MoD) spokesperson announced on Wednesday that the Pakistan Army violated the ceasefire by intruding into Indian territory and firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

“The violation commenced at 1.10 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting Indian troops to respond with a measured and controlled retaliation,” the spokesperson stated.

No casualties on the Pakistani side were reported due to Indian countermeasures, although official sources indicated that five enemy soldiers sustained injuries from the explosion and ensuing exchanges of fire.

According to Lt. Colonel Suneel Bartwal, defence ministry spokesperson, “On April 1, 2025, a mine explosion occurred in the Krishna Ghati Sector due to the incursion of the Pakistan Army across the LoC. This was followed by unprovoked firing and a breach of the ceasefire. Our troops responded effectively in a controlled manner. The situation is stable and under close observation.”

He emphasized that the Indian Army remains committed to maintaining the principles of the Director Generals Military Operations (DGsMO) understanding from 2021 to ensure peace along the LoC.

Since the ceasefire agreement was signed on February 25, 2021, violations have been infrequent, with local disputes typically resolved through flag meetings at the level of Brigade commanders.

The Indian Army and security forces are on high alert along the border due to the presence of foreign mercenaries in the Poonch, Rajouri, and Kathua districts, as well as parts of the Jammu hinterland.

An extensive ‘seek and destroy’ operation has been underway since March 23, following the sighting of five Pakistani terrorists in the Kathua district, located 4 km within the International Border.

Two of these terrorists have already been neutralized by security forces, while efforts continue to locate and eliminate the remaining three.

Tragically, four local policemen lost their lives in the initial confrontation with the hiding terrorists.
