Jammu, April 7 (NationPress) The Pakistani Army breached the ceasefire on Monday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, prompting a robust response from the Indian Army, according to official sources.

Officials reported, “The Pakistani Army contravened the bilateral ceasefire today in the Digwar sector of Poonch district. The Indian Army retaliated appropriately.”

A search operation has commenced in the vicinity to confirm that no infiltration occurred amidst the firing by the Pakistani Army.

Previously, on April 1, the Pakistani Army had violated the ceasefire with unprovoked firing following a mine explosion along the LoC in Poonch district. The Indian troops responded effectively in a “controlled and calibrated manner,” according to an army statement.

This recent ceasefire violation coincided with a visit from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Jammu and Kashmir.

While addressing BJP MLAs in Jammu on Sunday night, the home minister reassured them that the security situation would soon stabilize in the Jammu division.

Reports indicate that terrorists, primarily foreign mercenaries, have been active in the mountainous areas of Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, and Kishtwar district.

On March 23, a group of five terrorists who infiltrated into the Indian side of the International Border in Kathua district engaged in an encounter with local police in Sanyal village, located 4 km inside the IB.

During this encounter, two terrorists were eliminated, while four policemen also lost their lives.

Joint forces have escalated their ‘seek and destroy’ operations to higher terrains in Kathua and Rajouri districts to capture the remaining three terrorists.

A brief encounter occurred on Friday between the terrorists and joint forces in the Billawar area of Kathua district.

The higher terrains of Kathua district are reportedly being exploited by terrorists to infiltrate into Rajouri and Poonch districts.

To counteract the hit-and-run tactics employed by terrorists, approximately 4,000 elite Para commandos of the army, specially trained in mountain warfare, have been deployed in the densely wooded regions of these districts. Following the updated strategy from joint forces, terrorists have been unable to execute hit-and-run attacks in Poonch, Rajouri, and Kathua districts as witnessed in the last quarter of 2024.
