Jammu, May 4 (NationPress) On Sunday, the Pakistan Army breached the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir for the 10th straight day, prompting a measured response from Indian troops, according to officials.
The Defence Ministry stated that during the night of May 3-4, posts of the Pakistan Army engaged in unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in areas facing Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor.
The Indian Army reacted swiftly and appropriately.
Heightened tensions between the two nations followed a tragic incident where Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists, allegedly supported by Pakistan, killed 26 innocent people, including 25 tourists and a local, in Baisaran meadow on April 22.
The nation expressed outrage over this cowardly terrorist act, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the terrorists, their handlers, and supporters would be relentlessly pursued.
In response, India implemented several measures against Pakistan, including the deportation of its nationals from Indian territory, closure of the Attari-Wagah border, suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, restricting its airspace for Pakistani commercial flights, and halting all trade and cultural exchanges.
Prime Minister Modi has granted operational freedom to the armed forces to respond to the Pahalgam killings.
This decision followed a meeting with the Defence Minister, National Security Advisor, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), and the heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
In a prior meeting, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh consulted with Prime Minister Modi on April 28 after receiving a comprehensive briefing from CDS General Anil Chauhan regarding the readiness of the Armed Forces.
Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha conducted a security review with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in Srinagar recently, instructing the Army to use necessary force against the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attack.
In a bid to send a stern warning to terrorists and their sympathizers, security forces have been demolishing the homes of those involved. On April 25, the residences of Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh were razed in Tral and Bijbehara.
Both were connected to the LeT group implicated in the Pahalgam killings. So far, the homes of 10 active terrorists in the Kashmir Valley have been demolished.
On April 28, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly unanimously condemned the heinous terrorist attack and passed a resolution in response.
