Srinagar, April 29 (NationPress) In a troubling escalation, the Pakistan Army has breached the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir for the fifth consecutive day on Tuesday, prompting a robust response from the Indian Army.
The exchanges of fire were reported in the districts of Kupwara and Baramulla in Kashmir, as well as the Akhnoor sector in Jammu.
A statement from the Ministry of Defence indicated, “During the night of 28-29 April 2025, the Pakistan Army engaged in unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in regions opposite Kupwara and Baramulla, along with the Akhnoor sector. The Indian Army responded effectively and in a measured manner to this provocation.”
Heightened tensions have arisen between the two nations following the tragic incident on April 22, where Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists, supported by Pakistan, murdered 26 innocent individuals, including 25 tourists and a local resident, in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
The nation was incensed by the heinous actions of the terrorists, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi vowing in his initial remarks on the Pahalgam killings that those responsible, including their handlers and supporters, would be relentlessly pursued.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a detailed 40-minute meeting with the Prime Minister on Monday, following a comprehensive briefing from the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) regarding the readiness of the armed forces to address any potential threats.
The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, recently convened a security review meeting with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in Srinagar.
In this meeting, the L-G urged the Army to deploy any necessary force to apprehend the individuals responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack. To send a strong message to terrorists and their supporters, security forces have been actively demolishing the residences of terrorists.
Last Friday, the homes of Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh were demolished in the Tral and Bijbehara areas, respectively. Both were linked to the LeT group involved in the Pahalgam killings. So far, the residences of 10 active terrorists in the Kashmir Valley have been demolished.
On Monday, the J&K Assembly unanimously condemned the vile terrorist attack and passed a resolution in response.
