Jammu, May 6 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Pakistan Army engaged in unprovoked small arms fire at Indian positions along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir for the 12th consecutive day.
A spokesperson from the Defence Ministry stated, “During the night of May 5-6, 2025, the Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked small-arms firing from posts across the LoC in regions opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor.
“The Indian Army responded in a proportionate manner,” the spokesperson added.
Heightened tensions between the two nations followed a tragic incident where Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) sponsored terrorists killed 26 innocent civilians, including 25 tourists and a local, on April 22 in Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
This act of terrorism sparked outrage across the nation. In response to the killings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the terrorists, along with their backers, would be pursued relentlessly.
In retaliation, India implemented several measures against Pakistan, which included deporting its nationals from Indian territory, closing the Attari-Wagah border, suspending the Indus Water Treaty, restricting Pakistani commercial flights from its airspace, and halting all trade and cultural exchanges.
A directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs mandated that all border states conduct a mock civil defense drill on Wednesday to educate students and others about emergency civil defense procedures applicable during warlike situations.
Prime Minister Modi has granted operational autonomy to the armed forces to respond decisively to the Pahalgam massacre.
This decision followed a meeting with the defence minister, national security advisor, chief of defence staff (CDS), and the heads of the army, navy, and air force, during which a series of discussions took place.
Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, has been conducting security review meetings and has urged the army to deploy whatever force is necessary to apprehend those responsible for the Pahalgam terror attack.
In a show of strength, security forces have demolished the homes of ten terrorists to send a strong message to their operatives and sympathizers.
On April 25, the residences of Adil Hussain Thokar and Asif Sheikh, both affiliated with the LeT and involved in the Pahalgam killings, were destroyed in the Tral and Bijbehara regions.
Moreover, on April 28, the J&K Assembly unanimously denounced the heinous terrorist attack and adopted a resolution condemning it.
