Jammu, Feb 13 (NationPress) Defence sources reported on Thursday that the Pakistan Army incurred significant losses late Wednesday night when the Indian Army responded to a ceasefire breach along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.

In light of the unprovoked ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army, a state of high alert has been declared along the LoC, International Border (IB), and the surrounding areas in Jammu. Numerous firing incidents have been reported in Rajouri, Poonch, and Jammu districts, aiming to deter infiltration attempts into J&K.

This ceasefire breach in the Krishna Ghati sector marks the first significant incident of the year.

Defence sources indicate that at least five soldiers from the Pakistan Army were killed due to retaliatory fire from the Indian Army in the Tarkundi area of the Krishna Ghati sector.

The Pakistan Army initiated the ceasefire violation just a day after two soldiers from the Indian Army, including a captain, lost their lives in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu district. It is suspected that the terrorists were responsible for triggering the IED.

Over the past five days, there have been multiple firing incidents in Poonch, Rajouri, and Jammu districts, which are believed to be attempts by the Pakistan Army to facilitate infiltration into J&K.

On February 11, a captain and another soldier were killed in an IED explosion in the Akhnoor sector.

On February 8, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was slightly injured after accidentally stepping on a landmine while patrolling along the LoC, while another soldier was shot at a forward post in the Keri sector of Rajouri.

Army sources have reported that terrorists are poised to infiltrate into the Indian territory along the LoC and IB, as security forces remain vigilant to counter such attempts in the upcoming days. During a high-level security meeting on Wednesday, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha instructed the security forces to maintain a stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism and infiltration.
